Shipping container cafe opens for business

By Jecca Powell  Friday May 25, 2018

A converted shipping container has opened as a cafe in gardens owned by the University of Bristol.

Source Garden Cafe can be found outside the Hawthorns on Woodland Road, only a few hundred yards from the Clifton Triangle and is open to students, staff and public alike.

Run by in-house university caterers Source, the cafe offers ethically-sourced food and drinks, and provides outdoor seating.

Students visiting on a recent weekday morning thought it was a welcome addition to the university campus, with many of nearby catering facilities recently having been converted into study spaces.

Second year student Isaac Norris said: “I think it’s a good hub to bring people together in the sun to get their Vitamin D.

“The use of a shipping container is very innovative and it speaks to the younger generation, but considering that it is in a student area, the food is fairly pricey.”
