Some of Bristol’s top chefs to compete in new Channel 4 show
A different Bristol corner shop will be featured once a day on Channel 4 for a week, as some of the city’s best chefs compete to see who can cook the best meal using ingredients bought for just £10.
Chef vs Cornershop is a five-part pilot series hosted by former Holby City and Strictly Come Dancing star Chizzy Akudolu which will be broadcast on Channel 4 from December 14 to 18 at 5.30pm.
In areas of Bristol including Knowle West, Bishopsworth and Easton, a different chef will compete each day against Bristol-born celebrity chef Dean Edwards to prepare the best two-course menu.

Those taking part in the show are:
- Henry Eldon from The Cauldron in St Werburgh’s
- Larkin Cen from Woky Ko in Wapping Wharf, Clifton and St Nick’s Market
- Rob Howell from Root in Wapping Wharf
- Caribbean chef Shivi Ramoutar
- Harriet Mansell of Robin Wylde in Lyme Regis
The format is based on the BBC Scotland series Corner Shop Cook-Off, with the pilot mini-series for Channel 4 commissioned by Jo Street, Channel 4’s head of daytime and head of their Glasgow hub, sister hub to Channel 4’s Bristol hub in Finzels Reach.
Street said: “The corner shop has always been a life-saver when you’ve run out of milk or teabags, but only now are we realising the true value and uniqueness of these independent businesses.
“This series will showcase how brilliantly they can tell the story of the local communities they serve, and put the professional chefs under a bit of pressure as well!”
Paul Murray, executive producer for Mentorn, added: “It’s a cheeky, fun show that subverts the rules of the traditional TV cooking competition, by getting professional chefs to cook for amateur judges.
“Along the way we’ll see some great food coming from the most unlikely ingredients.”
