Spicer & Cole close cafe ‘with a heavy heart’

By Martin Booth  Wednesday Nov 30, 2022

A cafe that has been closed since October will now not be reopening.

A notice in the window of Spicer & Cole on Gloucester Road said that it was closed temporarily due to a kitchen refurbishment taking place.

But its owners Carla and Chris Swift now say that it is closed for good after seven years in BS7 in what used to be Tart.

The Gloucester Road branch was the third Spicer & Cole to open in Bristol when it opened in March 2016.

The other Spicer & Cole cafes on Queen Square Avenue, Clifton Village, Finzels Reach and the RWA remain open.

“With a heavy heart we announce we will be permanently closing our Gloucester Rd cafe,” Spicer & Cole wrote on Instagram.

“We have explored every avenue to keep it going but just couldn’t make it work financially due increased costs in nearly everything that we do.

“A massive thank-you to all our lovely regulars for your support over the last seven years – our team will miss you but hopefully we’ll still see you in one of our other cafes in Clifton or the city centre.”
