Spicer & Cole open their fifth Bristol cafe
A huge abstract painting in vivid hues of red and orange looks over the main seating area of the new Spicer & Cole cafe.
Almada by Albert Irvin is part of the permanent collection of the RWA, with the artist having his own exhibition at the gallery back in 2018.
Newly reopened and refurbished since that exhibition, the gallery now has Bristol’s fifth Spicer & Cole on its ground floor.

It has a familiar feel to the four other Spice & Coles in the city (on Queen Square Avenue, Princess Victoria Street, Gloucester Road and Finzels Reach) but this is also very much a cafe located within an art gallery, with the Irvin painting a reminder just in case you have forgotten where you are.
The RWA’s gift shop is through one door, with the cafe also accessible from new doors next to a newly created outside terrace with views across the road to the Victoria Room’s fountains.
The guest coffee here is currently Juicebox, an Ethiopian single origin roasted by Elsewhere Coffee in Deptford; there are plenty of cakes and pastries; bagels, filled croissants, baguettes and toasties; as well as Spicer & Cole’s popular seasonal salads and soup of the day.
