Sudden closure of one of Bristol’s most opulent restaurants

By Martin Booth  Thursday Jan 5, 2023

A restaurant located in one of Bristol’s most historic buildings has closed.

Klosterhaus opened in October 2020 within Quakers’ Friars, an 18th-century Friends’ meeting house attached to fragments of a medieval Dominican friary.

The restaurant was part of D&D London, a hospitality group which owns dozens of restaurants, bars and a hotel, based predominantly in London.

Klosterhaus described itself as “a destination restaurant and bar with a modern take on a grand cafe”.

Ahead of its closure, a dozen new items had been added to its a la carte menu including grilled artichoke salad, beef goulash and wild mushroom risotto.

A statement on their website reads: “Dear friends, Please note that Klosterhaus has now closed, however we would be delighted to welcome you at one of our sister restaurants…

“Thank you for your support and we look forward to seeing you soon.”

Klosterhaus opened in what was previously Brasserie Blanc.

Over the years, the site has been a Dominican friary, a Quakers’ meeting house, a school and Bristol’s register office.
