Swoon wins at Great Taste Awards
Swoon has been serving their freshly churned gelato on College Green since 2016 and has recently taken home an unprecedented 22 stars in the 2019 Great Taste Awards.
The prestigious awards are described as “the food and drink Oscars” by The Sunday Telegraph, with Swoon winning the highest possible scores from the Guild of Fine Food.
The brand is the brainchild of co-founders Bruno Forte and Pat Powell, the latest generation in a family of Italian gelato makers with 120 years of experience.

Swoon often has queues out of the door in summer
“All of us at Swoon are over the moon that our gelato has been recognised in this way by The Guild of Fine Food,” says Pat.
“We are very particular about how Swoon gelato is made, never compromising on ingredients or taking any short cuts. It takes as long as it takes to slow churn the gelato and we’re extra thrilled that the love and care we put into it is appreciated.”
In a competitive category, Swoon achieved the top marks of three stars for its nocciola gelato and its pistachio gelato.
Swoon also received two stars for eight other products, including their blood orange sorbetto, white angel gelato and passionfruit swoon.
Great Taste Awards judge Andy Clarke emphasises how stringent the judging process is, having received over 12,000 entries in 2019.
“A three-star product is on a completely different level. It’s like finding the holy grail of foods,” says Andy.
Pat adds: “We are grateful to all the Swoonatics for their support, we couldn’t do what we do without them. And also of course to the judges who really do have the most excellent taste.”
