Taste a cultural fusion with Nadu and Deliveroo
To say Bristol is a melting pot for a diverse range of cultures, languages and cuisines is an understatement. With over 91 different languages spoken in the city and a community hailing from over 187 countries, Bristol is continuing to become more international. With this distinct range of people comes the infusion of their unique cuisines into the heart of the city – arguably what makes Bristol so special.
Some restaurateurs take this a step further and combine the ingredients of two distinct cuisines to make one deliciously unique menu – and that’s the story of Nadu.
Nadu is located in Banksy’s old stomping ground, Stokes Croft; the heart of independent food and drink. Plus Deliveroo is on hand to deliver straight to your door! This restaurant is the brainchild of Raja and Saravanan, bringing together traditional cuisine from Tamil, an Indian state, and the country of Sri Lanka. Saravanan has cooked in Michelin star kitchens across the country, so he is no stranger to high-quality food. The duo also own critically acclaimed Indian restaurant Nutmeg, located in Clifton.
is needed now More than ever
Nadu brands its food as ‘honest with exotic flavours’, which is exactly the feeling it gives to its customer base; the menu is full to the brim of deliciously vibrant dishes. With ‘Nadu’ meaning ‘from the land’, the kitchen uses vegetables, meats, and fish traditionally found in Sri Lanka and the Southern Indian States. Tamil food is based on the idea that food shapes the ‘personality, mind, and mood’, something which the team aims to reflect in their menus.
Alongside a delicious selection of curries, dosa, and so much more, expert bartenders serve a range of unique drinks and cocktails, with rum at the heart of these concoctions. This unique fusion of food is the type of independent eatery that Deliveroo loves to celebrate, which is why it has chosen to champion Nadu as part of a wider independent food and street art campaign across the city.
In partnership with Upfest, the organisation behind Europe’s largest street art festival, Deliveroo commissioned a huge mural with independent restaurants at the heart of the creative for the piece. The art was created by Silent Hobo, who also created a piece of art specifically for Nadu.
Wei Ong, aka Silent Hobo, specialises in spray painted graffiti visuals and is a bit of a local legend in the city’s art scene. His signature character sits at the centre of the piece, adorned with the exotic ingredients Nadu is known and loved for.
Silent Hobo’s artwork is on display across Bristol with nine other pieces made to champion just some of the city’s fantastic independents.
