Thali closes two Bristol restaurants
It has been a Bristol institution for almost two decades but its days may now be numbered.
After being founded as a street food truck at Glastonbury Festival, Thali opened its first restaurant in Montpelier in 2001 and later opened four other restaurants across the city.
After going into administration, four Thali members of staff took on the business themselves in 2018 – in the process saving their own jobs as well as the livelihoods of 80 colleagues – but its future is now once again bleak.

At the start of 2019, Thali had five restaurants across Bristol. There are now only two, including their flagship branch in Easton
A sign has now appeared on the door of the North Street and Clifton Village restaurants informing customers that they have both closed.
The Thali restaurants on York Road in Montpelier and on St Mark’s Road in Easton are both still open.
It follows the closure of the Totterdown branch in March 2019, and the Thali in Oxford which closed in 2018 a year after opening.
Ramesh Prasad – one of the four members of staff involved in the 2018 staff buyout – applied for a new alcohol license for the Montpelier restaurant on June 14 using the applicant name AR Junoon Ltd.
Bristol24/7 has approached the Thali team for comment.
