The return of Pi Shop

By Martin Booth  Friday Nov 13, 2020

“This is just a bit of fun,” said Peter Sanchez-Iglesias, minutes after he had just sold out of pizzas less than one hour after reopening Pi Shop‘s doors on Thursday evening.

But what fun this is. And how lucky for Bristol to have one of the UK’s most acclaimed chefs once again turning his hand to pizza.

After closing its doors two years ago, Pi Shop has reopened for at least the duration of the second national lockdown in its original premises on Lower Guinea Street in Redcliffe between the Michelin stars of Casamia and Paco Tapas.

With lockdown restrictions in place, it is currently takeaway only – with pizzas starting at £13 and sides, desserts and dips also on the menu.

One pizza making a return is the JR, named after Peter’s brother Jonray, who he had always planned to open a pizza restaurant with in honour of their parents’ roots, with Casamia originally being a pizzeria when it first opened in Westbury-on-Trym.

The JR pizza features tomato, anchovies, black olives and oregano. Other options include the Cornwall Project, with tomato, marinated cull yaw, chilli and parmesan; and Smokey Shroom, with fire-roasted mushrooms, cheese and egg yolk.

Sides are sourdough and aioli, and there are two choices of dips (garlic and herb, and hot sauce) and two desserts: tiramisu and vanilla soft serve ice cream.
