Uncertain future for three Bristol cafes after catering company closes
Liz Haughton spent more than 13 years running the cafe at the Folk House on Park Street, recently rebranding her business to Bowl of Plenty.
But all good things must come to an end, and Haughton has had to sadly close the doors at the Folk House and her other two Bristol cafes at Spike Island and within the foyer of the Colston Hall.
Haughton said that it was “with a heavy heart” that the Cooking Company Ltd, trading as Bowl of Plenty, ceased trading on August 30.

She said: “Concern for the staff has been paramount and so I am happy to be able to say that the Folk House Cafe will carry on as it is, with the same staff and ethos in place.
“I have tried all avenues to make it work but we just didn’t make it. I have been working with a supportive local, independent group who are set up to help and advise companies like mine, to aid the transition for everyone and in particular for the staff.”
She added: “I thank all our loyal and wonderful customers, many of whom go way back to early days at the Folk House which we opened in 2006 and I would also like to thank our suppliers who have inspired us with their incredible produce and generosity.
“Above all the loyal staff who have come, blossomed, learned, taught, gone, come back, and have been supportive, funny, kind and inspiring.”
The cafe at Spike Island is due to be closed for a week for some building works and reopen on September 7, while the running of the cafe at the Folk House is being taken in-house for a few months during the hunt for a new operator.
