‘We have felt extremely welcomed to Gloucester Road’

By Martin Booth  Monday Jul 12, 2021

The owners of a new restaurant say that they have felt “extremely welcomed” to Bristol.

Phil Borrett and Sarah McCracken opened The Dough Kitchen on Gloucester Road after a decade running a restaurant in Sidmouth.

The Devon natives have now moved on from The Marine Pizzeria in the seaside town but have continued their own take on Italian street food including filled subs and authentic pizza.

“We pride ourselves on using the best quality Italian ingredients combined with fresh, local produce both in food and drink,” says Phil.

“This and the absolute promise of making all things dough from scratch everyday, plus all sauces and street food, means we can bring people the freshest quality ingredients cooked to order.”

Phil trained in London with one of the best Italian pizza chefs in the UK before moving back to Sidmouth with Sarah to set up The Marine Pizzeria.

“We had 10 years of great business and have created over those years a model that is individual and creative, and think it will work and fit in really well to what’s around on Gloucester Road.

“Since leaving London we have both missed the hustle and bustle that is city life. We both have past ties to Bristol, with myself playing in rock bands around Bristol as I lived in Frome as a teenager, and Sarah as she was a uni student at UWE and lived just off Gloucester Road for those years.”

Phil added: “We have felt extremely welcomed to Gloucester Road and had great feedback so far. The subs especially have gone really well at lunch times.

“Aly from the Blue Lagoon has been especially helpful in getting set up and connecting us to local suppliers. With our outdoor space just being opened we look forward to the future.”
