Woky Ko in Clifton to reopen as rotisserie and noodle bar
Just over a year after Woky Ko: Kauto opened on Queen’s Road, it has closed in order to be given a new concept.
The Clifton restaurant is due to reopen in September as Woky Ko: Jing Xu, based on a Chinese siu lap dong which serves meats roasted on spits over an open fire.
Jing Xu means “honouring heritage” and was the name that Woky Ko founder Larkin Cen was given at birth by his grandfather. The name itself is a conscious effort to move away from Kauto, which was named after a racehorse.

Jing Xu promises to be a Chinese rotisserie and noodle bar serving traditional roasted meats such as glazed duck, pork belly and char siu pork, small plates, noodles and soup noodles.
Open seven days a week, the restaurant aims to have a faster paced, counter service with upstairs reserved for private hire and group bookings.
Previous Masterchef finalist Cen grew up above his parents’ Chinese takeaway in Cardiff and was a lawyer before opening the first Woky Ko at Cargo 1 at Wapping Wharf, now also joined by Woky Ko: Kaiju in Cargo 2 and a robata stall in St Nick’s Market.

Cen said: “We’ve been at our Queen’s Road site for over a year now and even though the feedback has been excellent, we wanted to evolve Kauto into something faster paced for diners who are short on time.
He added: “These are dishes of my own and from my family’s heritage and I’m really excited we’re finally going to be cooking this type of food. I can’t wait to get the oven lit and the doors open now.”
