Woky Ko to open new restaurant in Wapping Wharf

By Martin Booth  Monday Mar 4, 2019

Not content with simply one restaurant in Wapping Wharf, Woky Ko owner Larkin Cen is due to open a second with a well-known head chef behind the stoves.

Woky Ko: Kaiju, specialising in Japanese cuisine, will be located on the first floor of Cargo 2’s latest extension on Museum Street and headed up by John Watson, formerly the head chef and co-owner of the award-winning No Man’s Grace on Chandos Road in Redland.

The new restaurant will join the original Woky Ko in Cargo 1 on Gaol Ferry Steps and the second Woky Ko, known as Woky Ko: Kauto, on Queen’s Road in Clifton.

Located on the level above Meatbox and Squeezed – alongside Hangar 25 which will also feature Japanese cooking – the newest Woky Ko is due to open on March 14 and will be serving a ramen menu as well as seasonal vegetable, fish and meat yakitori skewer dishes cooked on robata grills.

John said that “cooking on the Japanese robata grill will bring an exciting, new concept that we hope customers will love. Expect a seasonally-led menu with ever-changing dishes.”

Larkin added: “The addition of John to the Woky Ko family is massively exciting. I’m sure we can teach each other a thing or two!

“It’s also really important to me that we can impart knowledge of another type of Asian cuisine to the chefs we nurture to keep passing on the traditions and art of Asian cooking to this new generation. This is my mission with all the Woky Ko restaurants.”
