A-Z Bristol pub crawl: North St Standard, Bedminster
On a recent Friday afternoon the smell of pizza drifts through the airy industrial interior of North St Standard.
A mother struggles to chase after her excitable child as he makes the most of the wide open space, and a couple mull over the menu. Will it be the Alabama chicken burger or the vegan mac and cheese?
North St Standard, aptly named after its geographical positioning on the bustling North Street, brings in more and more families as the minutes pass, parents looking to fill their children’s hungry bellies after a long first week back at school.
is needed now More than ever

The open kitchen serves eager punters pizzas, burgers and pasta
It’s a homely environment – almost local – helped by the prints dotted across the interior from local Upfest artists, including Lucas Antics and Liam Bononi, and the phosphorescent glow of the Tracy Emin-style ‘North Street Standard’ insignia sprayed above the open kitchen.
Its beers aren’t far from home either, with a Lost and Grounded Wanna go to the Sun IPA, and Bristol Beer Factory Clear Head and BBF North Street Cider, whose brewery is just a stone’s throw away.
One comedian doesn’t think North Street Standard was quite so family friendly however. Nish Kumar called the establishment a “pizza-based sex dungeon” on first inspection.
The owners of North Street Standard found his comment pretty insightful by the looks of it, as they soon started adding delicious pizzas to their menu (although they didn’t take on the sex dungeon idea). Thanks Nish.
North Street Standard is one of those indie bars and kitchens that has added to the trendy feel of North Street, and it looks set to continue to do so in the future.
