A-Z Bristol Pub Crawl: The Jersey Lily, Whiteladies Road
Summer had truly arrived during a recent late afternoon visit to the Jersey Lily.
Two students sipped Inch’s Cider on outdoor chairs, peeling off layers of mohair jumpers and a fur lined jacket as the sun radiated down. “BeReal’s gone off,” one exclaimed, before posing for photographs of each other.
The dozen or so seats close to them were quickly captured taken by eager drinkers wanting to soak up the rays. Meanwhile, round the corner the small beer garden, eclipsed by shadows, lay empty.
is needed now More than ever
Inside, a scattering of solitary older chaps read newspapers, ponder over the crossword and watch the television while slowly drinking pints of bitter.

The busyness of the Jersey Lily could perhaps be explained by its ‘ale sale’ on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, with a selection of Wickwar Brewing Company ales, served from ornate hand-pulls, slashed to just £3.00 per pint. Another deal on offer is pizza and a pint of Amstel, Inch’s or Wickwar Ale for £12.
With wooden floors and a mixture of high tables and low bench seating, the Whiteladies Road pub has all the hallmarks of a traditional boozer, but modernised by a clean, muted decor, chic vintage lighting, a good variety of drinks and food, and background music.
Framed black and white photos depict a bygone era, featuring the flamboyant Jersey-born Victorian actress and racehorse breeder Lily Langtry.
