A-Z Bristol Pub Crawl: The Old Crow, Henbury
“You can’t use that machine, it’s fucked.”
A man in a flat cap speaks to nobody in particular as he walks away from one of the fruit machines dotted around the Old Crow after trying and failing to insert a fiver.
He finds another machine as most people in the pub take no notice of him, their focus on the televisions playing the closing few minutes of Everton versus Aston Villa.
is needed now More than ever
A pub is thought to have stood on this site since the late 16th century, with the coaching inn of yore now replaced by bed and breakfast rooms upstairs.
To mark dry January, all bottles of Thatchers Zero cost just £1 but not many of the regulars seem tempted.
The local Madri rep has done a great job, with this Spanish lager brewed in the UK on tap, on beer mats and on many of the glasses whether they contain Madri or not.
Bass Smooth is coming soon according to a sign behind the bar, with an A-board gathering dust in one corner revealing that 6X and Doom Bar were both available on draught once upon a time.
The final whistle blows at Goodison Park accompanied by a loud burp. “Oooh, excuse I,” says the culprit at a fruit machine.
