Bar of the Week: Bristol Distilling Co.

By Martin Booth  Friday Oct 5, 2018

A group of friends headed to the bar at the Bristol Distilling Co on a recent Friday after work and ordered a round of gin and tonics.

The suggested serve here is with a slice of grapefruit and Mediterranean tonic from Fever Tree, and there is no need to disagree, especially with the gin in the glass being produced only a few yards from the bar.

Bristol Distilling Co has been making their Gin 77 at their Bedminster home since the beginning of this year and have recently started opening their shutter doors to drinkers on Fridays from 4pm until 8pm.

A G&T remains the drink of choice – £4 for a single measure and £6 for a double, with other options including a gin garden cocktail, a martini or a negroni.

But it’s not the only option, with the bar also serving beers, currently Kaleidoscope from St Werburgh’s brewery Wiper & True and Keller Pills from Lost & Grounded in St Anne’s; No Brainer from Cotswold Cider; a sauvignon blanc, merlot and prosecco; and soft drinks including elderflower and Sicilian lemonade.

Another group of friends came in to peruse the menu, with Gisellia behind the bar recommending them a drink to best suit their individual tastes.

As an old theatre spotlight was turned on to pick out the still in the distillery, Jake Black, one of the co-owners of Bristol Distilling Co, wandered from his office around the back into the bar to chat with one of the customers.

The sun began to set. It was soon time for another gin.
