From ashes to Ashton

By Bristol24/7  Wednesday Apr 15, 2015

A much-loved pub in Long Ashton has reopened its doors less than a year after it was gutted by a serious fire.

The Dovecote has been renamed The Ashton after 10 months of rebuilding and redesign.

The pub began life as a farm cottage with parts of it dating back to the 1650s. Once called the Coach & Horses, it was renamed the Smyth Arms in 1749 after the Smyth family who were the principal landowners in the area.

General manager Tomas Gelazius said: “It’s been a long time in preparation so we’re over the moon.”

The beer garden is already attracting the punters
