By George Jones  Monday Oct 16, 2023

A new cocktail bar inspired by Japanese and East Asian aesthetics, tastes and service has opened in the city centre.

Ed Sargent and Benjamin Kavanagh-Salguer have opened the Golden Crane on Unity Street off College Green.

“We are excited to introduce our discoveries and to share the flavours we love with our customers,” said Sargent.

Kavanagh-Salguer added: “We’ve noticed a lot of interest in Bristol at the moment around East Asian flavours and cultures has filtered down to the restaurant scene very nicely, but not the bar scene yet.

“We want to be branded as a premium bar and provide a full Golden Crane experience.”

Golden Crane serves a host of East Asian spirits including Baijiu from China, Soju from South Korea, and Awamori from Japan.

Signature cocktails include Chinese, South American blend Bai Tai and Japanese-influenced Fugo Fizz.

The bar also works alongside local Averys to provide premium wines and has VIP seating areas as well as bar-to-table service.

Speaking about the Golden Crane’s first week, co-owner Benjamin Kavanagh-Salguero said: “We did not know what to expect going into it, but the reception has been incredible. We had a whole mix of people.”

Sargent added: “It is important that we pay homage to Bristol in some way, so our use of the trip-hop genre such as Massive Attack for Golden Crane’s soundtrack helps create that Bristol feel.”
