New pub and restaurant ready to open in former bank on Church Road
The scaffolding is down, and the final polish is being added to a former bank that has been transformed into a new venue for St George.
The team behind the Christmas Steps pub, the Spotted Cow in Bedminster and Crack Magazine have spent months renovating the vast building on the corner of Church Road and Blackswarth Road, and they are now ready to throw open the doors to the public.
Simon Miller, a former head chef at The Ethicurean is leading the team in the kitchen and the new venue has been equipped with a sound system sourced from Pinewood Studios, as well as an extensive vinyl collection.
is needed now More than ever
The original plan to open the Red Church in the spring was scuppered due to the coronavirus outbreak, but it is finally ready to open to the public for the first time on Friday, October 2.

The Red Church opens its doors to the public on Friday, October 2
Tom Frost, co-founder of the Red Church and Crack Magazine said: “We can’t wait to open the doors of the Red Church and look forward to welcoming all members of the local community and beyond.
“We’ve worked hard to create a venue that works for the duration of the day, great for having a coffee and brunch with your laptop, bringing the family for Sunday lunch or serving up some amazing music from our sound system in the evenings, and with DJs on weekends.”
The bar will offer local beers from Arbor, Bristol Beer Factory, Lost and Grounded and Twisted Oak, while wine has been sourced from local suppliers. Initially, the bar will close at 10pm in line with government regulations but the plan is to keep the venue open until 1am on Fridays and Saturdays in the future.
Brunch is served from 10am, with pizzas available from midday and a “modern European menu” at dinner time. There will also be roasts served all day on Sundays.

Owners say the venue will be entirely Covid-19 regulation compliant, with a seating plan designed to keep diners, drinkers and music fans safe throughout. There will also be hand sanitising stations, table service, PPE at service areas, distinct entry and exit points, no cash payments and regular cleaning of tables.
Bookings for drinking and dining can be made via www.theredchurch.net.
