Christmas Dining

By Rose Clark  Friday Sep 9, 2016

It may only be September, but Christmas has an awful habit of creeping up on you.

And whilst you may still be wearing sandals and taking advantage of every last bit of warm weather, wouldn’t it be nice to have the office Christmas festivities sorted?

After all, that last picnic of the year will be more enjoyable if the work Christmas dinner is booked and the novelty jumpers hauled from the loft.

Here’s a first look at a few options. More to follow…

The Botanist

20a Berkeley Square, BS8 1HP

The Botanist is hidden away in a courtyard, just off the Triangle. Three courses for £25.95 offer vegetarian, fish and meat dishes, including classic roasts, and not so classic burgers. The gingerbread crème brûlée sounds delightful. They’re offering a complimentary bottle of Prosecco for parties of 6 and over if you book between November 24 and December 14.

The Ox

The Basement, Commercial Rooms, 43 Corn Street, BS1, 1HT

If the prospect of sprouts and Christmas pudding (not together) makes your toes curl, The Ox could be for you. They’re offering “something more than just the usual turkey fare.” Think lobster to start, globe artichoke with a fried egg for main, and a clementine pannacotta to finish. Three course lunch with a glass of bubbly is £29.50, add a tenner for dinner, book early for a twist on your normal Christmas dinner.

Thali Café

Various Bristol locations

Maybe you want something more exotic for Christmas dinner. Thali has cafes in Easton, Montpelier, Southville, Clifton and Totterdown. Their Christmas menu has highlights including the meltingly soft pig cheek vindaloo thali served with cavalo nero subji, mooli and pomegranate salad, dal, apple and mint raita and caramelised red onion rice. Yum. 15% off your bill if book by October 15, 10% if you book by November 15.

Mud Dock

40 The Grove, BS1 4RB

Ideally placed by the harbour, the Mud Dock Christmas menu includes Sri Lankan monkfish,  Malaysian turkey curry and stifado rabbit. There’s a sharing menu for parties of ten or more. Three course lunch is £23.95, dinner £25.95. To find out more about the tasty Xmas alternatives on offer, check out their menu and book early.

Rose of Denmark

6 Dowry Place, BS8 4QL

If a cosy Christmas dinner by the fire is what you’re after, look no further. Take your pick of classic pub roasts, hearty puddings and even coffee and mince pies to finish it off. Three course lunch, £23.00, dinner £29.00. To see what’s cooking this Christmas have a gander at their menu, and book here
