eVo
We’ve all heard the expression the right arm not knowing what the left arm is doing.
On Whiteladies Road, it’s a case of next-door businesses not knowing what the other was doing.
At number 96a, eVo has just opened. Next door at number 96, Bosco pizzeria is due to be opening in August from the team behind the Kensington Arms in Redland.
is needed now More than ever
So that’s two Italian restaurants sharing both a number and dividing wall.
At least eVo has had a head start. Opening in what used to be Zio, it’s a restaurant for business meetings and special occasions, with some of the specials costing £20 alone – although that was a lobster dish.
Seafood is a speciality here judging by the rest of the board which on Monday included grilled swordfish, seabass and squid ink spaghetti.
Without wanting to break the bank, I chose a salad for £8.75 with juicy chunks of grilled marinated chicken breast and crispy strips of pancetta.
Over the other side of the table, in between a hungry three-year-old sharing both of our food, Joanna was enjoying her margherita pizza (£7.50), unusually made with buffalo mozzarella.
The large wine list is virtually all Italian, with the exception of one rosé and the champagne, with Birra Moretti on tap and Montano cider also from Italy.
Service was attentive in an unobtrusive way, in a restaurant that also hopes it can attract the after-work crowd with the offer of cicchetti – tapas Venice-style.
eVo may have a silly name, but it’s a serious proposition.
