Josh Eggleton to open Salt and Malt

By Martin Booth  Friday Sep 19, 2014

Chew Valley Lake Tea Shop is the location of the long-awaited second restaurant from chef Josh Eggleton of the Michelin-starred Pony & Trap.

Salt & Malt promises to be a “tearoom and fish cafe”, with gradual changes to the current business taking place this year and a grand opening planned for next summer.

It is a venture between Eggleton, his father Chris and Jerry Khoshtaghaza of Crispies in Whitchurch and Brislington, where Eggleton Jnr experienced his first taste of working in the food industry.

Salt & Malt’s menu is set to include fresh seafood including whole grilled plaice, traditional fish and chips, and half a pint of fresh prawns.

Eggleton said: “We have plans to extend the opening hours and create a family friendly dining room, whilst working within the parameters of what is already running in the tearooms, just bringing a fresh dining experience to suit the location.

“I’ve always loved fish and chips as it’s where I started my career.”
