El Colmado to close original shop before moving to new home

By Martin Booth  Friday Mar 3, 2023

After almost a decade on Gloucester Road, an award-winning Spanish food shop is closing on Saturday.

But El Colmado will not be gone for long and are planning to move into new premises just a few hundred yards up the road hopefully by the end of March.

Their new next door neighbours within the former Murray butchers will be Popti & Beast, who will be opening their second store following the success of their first on Mina Road in St Werburgh’s.

El Colmado owner David Pavon told Bristol24/7 that the upcoming move is the end of one chapter and the beginning of another.

“It’s the end of ten years in this shop where we have created a little bit of Spain and the new place is going to have the same soul as this one had.

“With Popti & Beast beside me, it will be a huge draw for the area I believe.

“It’s the idea of a shopping area here on Gloucester Road, with a fishmonger, greengrocers, florist and soon another really nice butcher and a Spanish shop. It’s going to be great!”
