Fishponds family hope to open wholefood shop
A wholefood shop in Fishponds hopes to supply quality, ethically-sourced food with minimal packaging.
Penny and Jonny Barnett, who live in Fishponds with their children, five-year-old Amber Joy and one-year-old Louis, are now crowdfunding to help them open the shop.
Penny is a nutritional therapist and has worked in the health food and wellbeing industry for more than 15 years, and Jonny is a professional musician and educator.
is needed now More than ever
“Since moving to Fishponds in January 2020 we have found we are making several trips each week to other neighbourhoods in order to source organic staples and produce with good ethical standards,” say Penny and Jonny.
“We have also been dispirited when shopping at the amount of package waste we have helped create, particularly plastic.”
The shop hopes to have a zero waste section as well as selling locally baked fresh bread, chilled foods, coffee, chocolate, organic and natural groceries, as well as natural and organic toiletries and cleaning products.
Penny and Jonny will stock artisan goods by local artists and feature regular exhibitions of art on the walls by Bristol artists.
“Another important role for the shop will be as a community hub for new ideas and learning,” they say, with plans for the premises to be open some evenings for talks and workshops.
