Food Shop to close after less than a year in bigger premises

By Martin Booth  Friday Jan 12, 2024

One of Bristol’s most eclectic and interesting food shops is opening for the final time on Saturday.

Food Shop began in a former barbers on Overton Road just off Gloucester Road in May 2021 and moved into larger premises just around the corner on Gloucester Road two years later.

Its focus was on supporting independent food makers from Bristol, the South West and beyond, collaborating with businesses including Big Nath’s BBQ for a special toastie.

But all good things must come to an end, with owner Darren Tooley saying that “now is the right time for us to move onto other things”.

Writing on Instagram, Darren said: “So the time has come to bid farewell to Food Shop!

“We’ve had a blast the last few years and have thoroughly enjoyed the shop, the products and most importantly our customers.

“The decision is a practical one and now is the right time for us to move onto other things in 2024.

“Most of all we will miss chatting with you all and that is the hardest part of this farewell! Thanks for the love and support.”
