Food Shop to move into bigger premises

By Martin Booth  Tuesday Apr 11, 2023

Food Shop does exactly what it says on the tin, and it’s one of the best food shops in Bristol if recommendations from our EatDrink24/7 panel are anything to go by.

Currently located in a small unit just off Gloucester Road, the shop will soon be moving only a few hundred yards away to a bigger home.

The shop is focused on supporting independent food makers from Bristol, the South West and beyond, stocking everyday food products that owner Darren Tooley guarantees are well made, have good provenance and are of the best quality.

Food Shop’s last day opposite the Hobgoblin will be on Saturday before it moves into the shop at 57 Gloucester Road previously occupied by El Colmado.

On Monday, El Colmado opened for the first time in its own larger premises at 153B Gloucester Road in what used to be one-half of Murrays butchers, with the other half due to be occupied by Popti & Beast.

Darren is planning to make toasties and serve coffee in Food Shop’s new home, and is currently recruiting for full- and part-time roles in order to help him grow the business.

Writing on Instagram, Darren said: “After two years trading in this tiny yet lovely little room I am pleased to announce FOOD SHOP is moving to a bigger premises.

“Thank you to everyone who has supported the shop, I have thoroughly enjoyed meeting and chatting with all of my customers and suppliers and look forward to welcoming you all into the new gaff. The new shop will be just around the corner at 57 Gloucester Road.

“Last day of trading at North Rd will be Saturday 15th April, and we will begin at our new site shortly after. Please come and stock up all your essentials before we close!”
