Madrid couple introduce a real taste of Spain
A new Spanish deli has opened on Prince Street, two doors down from tapas restaurant El Puerto, turning this city centre corner into a haven for lovers of Spanish cuisine.
La Despensa del Gourmet is the brainchild of husband and wife team Ricardo and Elizabeth, both originally from Madrid.
“The main idea is to introduce Spanish food to English cultures and to show what kind of meals you can prepare,” says Elizabeth.
is needed now More than ever
Customers can order a sandwich to eat in or takeaway, as well as stocking up on a selection of fresh deli produce, dried and canned goods, and traditional wines from different areas of Spain.
La Despensa is not for the faint-hearted diner who dabbles in the odd bit of chorizo, as Elizabeth explains: “It’s high quality. It’s not for everybody, but for people who have a taste for this kind of food.”
The pair have experimented with UK suppliers in their opening months to get a feel for what their Bristol customers enjoy, but Elizabeth says that they have a large delivery on order from Spain which will be on the shelves soon.
