New deli and cafe opens on Wells Road
A new deli and cafe on Wells Road has a firm emphasis on healthy eating and a friendly community shopping experience.
Fox & West is named after its founders Lucy Fox and Hannah West, close friends who met while both teaching and have wanted to work together and with food for many years.
“We’re massive foodies,” says Hannah on a recent morning in the Totterdown shop, while Lucy was still teaching. “We both love healthy eating and we’re into our fruit and veg.
is needed now More than ever
“We wanted to give more people the chance to experience different foods and local foods – local coffee, local beers, local cheese – showcasing these things and giving a different shopping experience.”
The shop’s roots as a fruit and veg stall are still an essential part of Fox & West’s DNA, providing the friendly atmosphere of a local market.
Wooden crates filled with colourful vegetables adorn the window displays in what used to be Gaines, while teas, coffees and a huge variety of other mostly locally-sourced products fill the shelves.
There is already a flow of cheerful visitors to and from the deli throughout the afternoon, sampling a hot drink while taking a moment to enjoy the atmosphere.
“We want people to come and have a look, to tell us about local stuff we don’t know and give us advice,” Hannah says.
“We want great people sharing their love of food with us. So far, everyone’s been so welcoming and so friendly.”
