New greengrocers aims to be at heart of its community

By Martin Booth  Monday Sep 14, 2020

The first few days of business for a new greengrocers have been “overwhelmingly positive” according to its owner.

“We could not have wished for a nicer welcome,” said Kelly Hatton, in between serving customers on a recent morning at Sandy Park Greengrocers alongside her partner, Javied Idrees a digital designer by trade.

The pair live in the city centre but have family in Brislington so knew that this area could benefit from a new fruit and veg shop.

Kelly was furloughed from her office job due to coronavirus and it was the impetus that she needed to open her own shop on Sandy Park Road.

“This was something that I have always wanted to do,” said Kelly, 31, who grew up in Brixham and moved to Bristol to study at UWE. “It was always a bit of a dream.”

In what was previously an estate agent, the new greengrocers hopes to have as little waste as possible, with an emphasis on healthy food and homemade juices for sale soon.

“The community has really made us feel welcome so far,” Kelly added. “We love being here on Sandy Park Road.”
