The Graff Cafe – Death Wish Americano & Fresh Croissant

What? Forget about tired eyes or reluctantly dragging your heals through the Bearpit en-route to work. Embrace a day-break Death Wish courtesy of the Graff Cafe’s speciality, slow-roasted Robusta Coffee and a delicious croissant fresh from Herberts Bakery’s morning batch. A word of warning, though: Death Wish is *cataclysmically strong*. A world beater, no less, with 650mg of caffeine per cup. If you can handle it, this Wriggle will be your ticket to another dimension of AM awareness.
Where? Tucked away on the top level of Haymarket Walk, The Graff Cafe rewards those willing to delve a little deeper into the hidden corners of The Bear Pit with some truly excellent café fayre (including caffeinated classics from Clifton Coffee Company and caffeinated carnage from Death Wish), street art from The Bench 504 and some of the finest hangout vibes around. Exposed industrial blockwork; furniture made from recycled pallets and hessian sacks; a smorgasbord of spray-paint, posca pens and urban apparel; music from Led Zep, The Doors, J-Dilla; the undeniably heady aroma of Death Wish French Press (the world’s strongest coffee) and freshly baked pastries from Herberts of Gloucester Rd. The Graff Cafe is a proper urban gem and a treat for the senses – check it out.

What? Head to Burger Joint for a cracking burger and a side of your choice to take away. Burger options include beef, lamb, chicken, mushroom, veggie and peri chicken. Loads of sides to choose from, too. Please make sure to pay for any additional toppings you’d like, and the offer doesn’t extend to the Venison, Wild Boar or Kangaroo options. Knocks any meal-deal clean out the water – quick, easy and tasty as you like.
Where? Burgers don’t have to be fast food. In fact, the way they prepare them they are anything but fast. A burger made from top-quality products, then prepared and cooked with care, can be a top–class eating experience. That’s what you’ll get at The Burger Joint.

Where? These guys bring you a mouth-tingling taste of Mexico and Central America, with a mission to provide a more authentic range of delicious, fresh treats. Everything is made in-house, their delicious salsas, authentic Belizean frijoles, chunky guacamole, even their soft, gluten-free corn tortillas are freshly pressed each morning!

What? An exquisite toastie. Made from the finest Montgomery cheddar with some Comte or Cantal thrown in, packed into sourdough bread (baked in Totterdown) and rounded off with a glass of the Buvette house wine – red or white. This is what Buvette is famous for; cheese and wine. Don’t miss out.
Where? A new jewel in Bristol’s food crown. Dream team Peter and Max, of Auberge de Chassignolles and Riverstation fame, have secured a long term lease on their critically acclaimed pop-up space on Baldwin Street, now darling of critics and locals alike. Expect organic, biodynamic & chemical-free wines and beers from small producers in France, paired with immaculate Small plates alongside cheese and meat boards.

The Steam Crane – Full Breakfast Fry-Up & Ice Coffee/Ice Tea

What? Bacon, sausage, mushroom, sweet potato hash, poached eggs, homemade beans, spinach and fresh baked toasted ciabatta from their own ovens. Rounded off with any ice coffee or an ice tea. Get down there for a great spot in their beer garden, too. Fry not?
Where? The Steam Crane Alehouse and Kitchen are now open after a change of ownership, a new management team and an excellent refurbishment. Be prepared for eye-catching interior design, art on the walls and more than a few candles and chandeliers.

Club Haus – Any Breakfast Plate & Coffee/Tea

What? Pick up one of the Club Haus breakfast plates -fabulous variations on a traditional fry-up – and wash it down with a speciality coffee from Clifton Roasters or a loose leaf tea.
Where? The Club Haus cafe bar has been recently renovated. And boy have they done a good job. Repurposed squash court flooring with bright flecks of colour, flanked by French windows looking out over the water for the length of the building – all containing a truly surprising selection of beers, quality of coffee and ambitious food. What’s more, they’re super friendly. And there’re two ping pong tables. Two. Free. Ping. Pong. Tables.
