Mud Duck Cafe – Moroccan Spiced Chicken Schwarma, Fresh Salad & Flatbread

What?
A bountiful serving of lunchtime love from the Marinade masters at Mud Dock. Tender Moroccan-spiced Chicken served on a fresh bed of crispy mixed salad, a warm blanket of flatbread and topped off with a cooling dollop of sour cream. We’re pretty sure you won’t find a better lunchtime bite this close to the water – a definite Wriggle team fave (especially when enjoyed on the top terrace with a cold beer).
Where?
Sittin’ on the Mud-Dock of the bay (well, floating harbour), this is the perfect place to be wastin’ time, watching the ships roll in. In the morning sun with a coffee, or indulging in something a tad more wholesome when the evening comes, the quality of the food and the gorgeous views from the terrace of this converted boat warehouse make any visit thoroughly memorable. The famous Mud Dock Cycleworks is on the ground floor, so the café upstairs has steadily evolved into something of a Mecca (or a Ventoux?) for discerning foodies and cyclists alike. For hearty breakfasts, light & delicious lunches and fresh yet simple evening dishes, Get a Wriggle over to Mud Dock – its wheely good.

The Gourmet Sandwich Club @ The Pipe & Slippers – Any Main & Dirty Fries

It’s treat time, y’all. Verity is famous for cooking up the most delicious and indulgent grub – think anything from cheesy steak grilled goodness, whopping great chicken nachos and all things nasty but nice. Round it off with a hearty portion of dirty fries – enough for 2 unless you’re up for a big one. * Excludes the Double Stacker, soz.
Where?
The Gourmet Sandwich Club are sandwich experts who began life in Stokes Croft and have now moved to The Pipe and Slippers on Gloucester Road. These are not your average sandwiches! Imagine piles of steak layered with crumbled cheese and fresh veggies and you might get an idea. Their hand cut chips, chicken wings, pancakes and delicious pudding jars are also worth a mention!

Welcome to your new favourite Friday post-work pint-stop. Book yourself in for 4 selected pints of real/craft ale for just £2.50 each – you won’t beat that. What’s more, the Volunteer Tavern’s garden courtyard is outstanding; get in early to get a good spot. Non-ale drinkers be reassured; there’s plenty of delightful wine, soft drinks, spirits and lager to choose from at great prices – and be sure to check out the grub whilst your there. Note: pints are selected, and must be under 5% abv.
Where?
It’s a lovely pub just round the corner from Cabot Circus, knocking up great pub grub and proper beers. It’s well worth checking out – it’s hidden away, but once you know about it, you’re in for a treat!

Smoking Buns @ The Love Inn – 2X Burgers & 2X Sides

What?
You lucky things. Choose between the house classic beef burger or the halloumi burger, and pocket a couple of extra sides (one apiece) – your options are between fries, slaw or onion rings. It’s a rare chance to catch these boys visiting from London and their Camden Brewery home, and they’re bringing with them some hard fought lessons about the burger game.
Where?
Smoking Buns is the love child of Chef Events, born out of a 2-year research and development project which saw them working the grill for some of the UK’s leading burger set-ups and trawling the West Coast of America in search of perfect ribs. The ‘Smoking Buns’ burger is a really simple affair, the right mix of chuck and rib steak, our own unique bun recipe, pickles, Frenchie’s mustard, secret sauce and not a lot else. Easy.

Banish the end-of-weekend blues with a “Velvet Sunday” at The Square Kitchen – a scrumptious 2 course Sunday Roast (including a selection of meat, fish and veggie options) set against the backdrop of live Jazz and a very well stocked bar. With a broad range of Sunday papers to peruse and an eclectic selection of board games to ensconce yourself in after the meal, its a great way to kick back and forget that Monday is just around the corner.

The Square Kitchen is a unique Bristolian dining experience, offering contemporary à la carte in an intimate setting on Berkeley Square. Here, Wrigglers will experience innovative and modern fine dining in a charming contemporary setting, punctuated by the restaurant’s own carefully curated art exhibitions. The Square Kitchen’s Chefs use the finest locally-sourced ingredients for their dishes – and they pride themselves on creating innovative flavour combinations that exemplify the quality of their chosen produce. In keeping with this fresh, exciting, locally sourced ethos, the menus are also constantly reinvigorated to mirror the South West’s varying regional food seasons. “Seasonal ingredients treated with respect”, according to a well-known local food critic. We couldn’t agree more.
