Wriggle Introduces: Chance and Counters
Is there a better way to relax than with friends, quality food, drink and a board game? The Chance & Counters founders, Steve, Richard and Luke don’t think so.
They recently opened a purpose-built board game cafe, which is burrowed in at the bottom of the Christmas Steps, making a hive-like haven for board game enthusiasts.
Like all the best ideas, this one was dreamt up during a tipsy pub chat. After realising how much money they were spending on board games, Steven and Luke wanted to create a space where people could come and try out different games, without risking £40-50 every time. The pair started plotting the idea when Steve moved in with Luke in Birmingham. A few months later, they came across the third and final board member (pardon the pun) on Reddit. He was Richard and he had similar board game aspirations.
is needed now More than ever
Their combined passion for what they are doing is what makes Chance & Counters stand out from the crowd, as they all get a huge kick out of introducing people to the extensive world of board games that exists beyond Monopoly, Cluedo and Risk.
The boys target board gamers of all ages and abilities which can range from casual amateurs, up to seasoned strategists and anything in between. The result of this is a room full of people competing, cooperating and conspiring together, without a phone or laptop in sight.
They say they’re looking to experiment and utilise the “magnificent indie food scene here in Bristol”, so they’ve been sourcing fantastic fresh produce for their range of baguettes, paninis and cheese platters.
The trio has ambitious plans for the future of board games. Although it is still early days for these new kids under the steps, if their success continues as it has done so far, they have big plans to expand their reach to a second city within the next 18 months, bringing the boards to even more people.
