Bristol hosts British Street Food Awards

By Alison Maney  Thursday Mar 24, 2016

The Foodies Festival, which runs from May 13-15 on the downs, just got serious – the British Street Food Awards will hold their West heats at the fest, judging the best West country’s best by-the-curb flavours.

Bristol cooks have taken home top prizes at the Street Food Awards in the past; local chefs Katie and Kim took the top honour at the international European Street Food Awards in 2013.

Visitors to the Foodie Festival can participate in the judging by sampling the stalls’ signature dishes and voting for their favourite. The vendor with the most votes will win the coveted People’s Choice Award.

A panel of judges will also select winners in categories such as Best Main, Best Sandwich, Lifetime Achievement Award and Best Vegetarian Dish.

“We’re very excited to be at Foodies this year for the West heat of the 2016 British Street Food Awards,” says Richard Johnson, founder of the British Street Food Awards. “The Foodies team really appreciate the freewheeling street food vibe, and we’re hoping the families that come along will take their responsibilities seriously — by trying everything on offer and voting for the best street food trader in Britain.”
