Pan-n-Ice – review

By Martin Booth  Tuesday Feb 2, 2016

Thump-thump-thump-thump-thump!

Pan-n-Ice co-founder Henry Milroy pummels raspberries into a cream, which transforms into ice cream within only a few seconds on a plate with a temperature of minus 30 degrees.

He carries on until the ice cream has turned pink, flecked with raspberries not fully pummelled.

The resultant solid is then smothered flat before being rolled out into small cigar-shaped pieces of ice cream that are placed carefully on top of a chocolate brownie, dry ice still rising upwards from the takeaway cup.

Seeing the ice cream created in front of my eyes was verging on magic, and it tasted amazing.

Pan-n-Ice have taken up position in a converted Citroen CV van in the middle prong of Cabot Circus’ three walkways.

Their concept is new to the UK but big in Thailand, which is where Henry and his friend and business partner Rob Huysinga discovered it while backpacking last summer.

Warm winter specials cost £3.95, with names such as Brownie for #BAE, You Know You Want To (Oreos and Nutella) and Peanut Mess (Reese’s Cups and peanut butter).

Ice cream and one topping costs £3.50, and it’s 50p more for extra toppings which include popping candy, strawberries and meringues.

With Swoon opening on College Green next week, Bristol ice cream devotees have never had it sweeter.
