Street food traders to join forces for ‘love child’ collaborations

By Martin Booth  Tuesday Mar 29, 2022

If you thought that For Mice & Men‘s grilled cheese sandwiches could not be improved, then you’re in for a treat.

Tim Clark and Vic Curtain are joining forces with some of their favourite street food traders across Bristol for some special collaborations.

The ‘Love Child Series’ will spotlight a new trader with a new special each month, with the first collab featuring Big Nath’s BBQ‘s slow-cooked pulled pork in a grilled cheese sandwich with Mice & Men’s oak-smoked cheddar, gherkins, jalapeños and sweet bourbon barbecue sauce.

“Street food is about the relentless pursuit of perfection,” said Tim. “You specialise in one thing, do it thousands of times, and, over time, get really, really good at it.

“We figured, ‘Sure we could make up XYZ filling for a special and it’d be tasty’, but no matter how good it is, it won’t be as good as the traders who have perfected it over the course of years.’

“So why offer our customers anything less than the best? Let’s go straight to the specialists and combine forces.

“And there’s something gratifying about that. The teamwork and unity, and recognising we can achieve more together than we can apart.

“It’s a lesson and a mentality that I think has sadly faded in modern times. But we’re restoring it! One sandwich at a time.”

Vic added: “There’s a real community spirit amongst Bristol street food traders. We’ve been trading alongside some of these guys and gals for five, six, seven years. We have tremendous respect for each other.

“I think that comes from being in the trenches together, so to speak, and fully understanding the effort that goes into street food and mastering your craft. We’re excited to be working together!”
