Chandos Fish Bar

By Martin Booth  Thursday Sep 4, 2014

It’s Friday, which means it’s fish and chips day.

And there’s a new place in town to get your Friday fish and chips fix, Chandos Fish Bar on Chandos Road in Redland.

I opted for both haddock and cod on a visit this week. Both were excellent and so they should be: the fish here is frozen at sea within hours of being caught to retain its full flavour and then fried in green palm oil to order.

My three-year-old daughter enjoyed her jumbo sausage, but both she and her mum complained that the double-cooked chips had a few too many hard bits for their liking.

Also available on a short menu are Pieminister pies, whole-tail scampi and fishcakes, and homemade tartar sauce.

The opening of Chandos Fish Bar comes just in time for the inaugural Chandos Road street party taking place on Sunday which will include live music and plenty of activities from circus skills to snail racing.
