Happy New Year! We’re getting the first weekend of 2018 off to a bang with some brilliant events, starting the year as we mean to go on.
For anyone needing a bit of a laugh if the January blues are kicking in, there are two excellent comedy nights coming up that promise to have you in stitches. On Saturday, fast-rising and fast-paced comic Carl Donnelly and a few funny pals will be at the Hen And Chicken on North Street, while on Sunday it’s the turn of Josh Pugh at The Kensington Arms. You can even get a roast dinner to go alongside your serving of comedy: the carrots count as one of your five-a-day, January dieters.
If your New Year’s Resolution was to dust off the paintbrushes and exercise the creative bit of your brain, join the Scribble and Sketch session at the RWA. Suitable for all ages, it’s a free morning of activities inspired by current exhibitions.
Finally, if art to you is more of a spectator sport, don’t miss several great new exhibitions opening this week. Polish artist Piotr Kulaga’s abstract contemporary oil paintings adorn the walls of Tobacco Factory, while Tim Munson constructs eclectic sculptures from objects found on the streets of Bristol. Lastly, Ways of Seeing is an exciting, collaborative exhibition, bringing together artists from Britain and Taiwan. It opens on Friday.
