Join other Southville men for a Monday evening mental wellness checkup at the Little Yellow Cafe attached to the gym on North Street. Run by mental health initiative Talk Club, it’s an opportunity to have important conversations about mental health, no matter how big or small.

Briston Maroney makes “confessional, feel-good music that gets to the heart of being human” (The Line of Best Fit). He cut his teeth in Nashville’s DIY scene, earning a reputation for his lively performances. Following three EPs, earlier this year he released his debut album ‘Sunflower’. Working closely with Grammy-award winning producer John Congleton, the record sees Maroney’s earnest, reflective songwriting shine through as he “leans into pop production to express a new vibe which is deeply rooted in energetic Americana sounds” (DORK).

July 9 – September 11: Earth: Digging Deep in British Art 1781 – 2022, RWA
Our major summer exhibition, ‘Earth: Digging Deep in British Art 1781 – 2022′ is NOW OPEN (until 11 September 2022). The exhibition surveys the representation of our environment through artists’ perspectives over four centuries, from a fossil necklace representing the history of life on Earth, through to a large Mudwork installation using mud collected from the River Avon (pictured). Open Tues – Sun 10am – 5pm and late on Weds until 8pm.

Tuesday: Dumbelles, The Room Above
Three female comedians bring their lovingly crafted show from Edinburgh down to the intimate dark room settings of The Room Above, situated atop The White Bear pub on St Michaels Hill. It’ll be an hour of stand up from the trio, and no stone will be left unturned.

July 9 – September 11: Anthony Whishaw at 92: A Force of Nature, RWA
We are delighted to be showing an exhibition exploring Anthony Whishaw’s studies of nature and climate over the past six decades in the Kenny Gallery (free entry). Anthony Whishaw RA RWA has long been fascinated with the forces of nature; from the movement of storms, water, wind and the murmuration of birds to falling trees, leaves and flooding. This exhibition goes back through nearly sixty years of creative practice from the 1960s to today.

If you’ve ever wanted to learn Macramé – the art of creating plant hangers out of intricate knots and ropes – whilst enjoying a flight of some of the finest craft beers that Bristol has to offer, then look no further than the Alpha Bottle Shop in Bedminster. A tutor will guide you through the basic techniques/knots, and you’ll be able to choose from three different designs to focus on.

Music has always been a part of Sisanda Myataza’s life. From the legacy of her great great grandfather, the choral composer BB Myataza, to a love for the stage from an early age, the South African artist is a born performer both as a solo musician and in the various bands she’s formed part of. Since the release of her debut solo album in 2016, Myataza has gone from strength-to-strength, including a performance at the Cape Town Jazz Festival alongside the likes of Kamasi Washington and Laura Mvula. With her rich, soulful voice Myataza’s sound offers mellow jazz rhythms intertwined with Afrobeat influences.

Bristol/Weston-Super-Mare sketch duo Jack & Jordan bring their act to the coveted Alma Tavern & Theatre this Thursday. A collaboration between UK Based film exhibition organisation We Are Parable and Kenya based Manyatta Screenings, Love Letters to Cinema explores some of film’s greatest moments from both countries, via screenings, discussions and exhibitions. This weekend, expect screenings, followed by exhibitions of key elements from said screenings, such as shot lists, props etc.
