17 things to do in Bristol this weekend, June 29-July 1 2018

Slap on the suncream and get ready for a scorcher in Bristol this weekend. In between sunbathing, there’s plenty to do, see, hear, taste and experience, as ever.

Doc’n Roll festival, which celebrates the relationship between film and music, continues at various venues across the weekends. See our roundup for everything that’s on, including About a Badly Drawn Boy, a look back at the indie singer-songwriter’s Mercury Prize-winning album The Hour of Bewilderbeast, on at the Watershed on Friday.

On Saturday, award-winning comedian Rosie Wilby chats about her first book Is Monogamy Dead? at the Exchange, and you can keep it high-brow by paying a visit to the Martin Parr Foundation in Paintworks to see a magnificent photography collection amassed by David Hurn, including works by Henri Cartier-Bresson, Alec Soth, Elliott Erwitt and Newsha Tavakolian.

On Sunday, deck yourself in rainbows for the start of Pride Month. Two special events will be going on to celebrate what promises to be a jam-packed July: Bristol Pride team up with regular poetry night Milk Poetry to present Rainbow Milk at The Room Above from 7.30pm, while over at the Watershed, Queer Vision present Freak Show as the centrepiece of the Pride film festival.
