Akala – Natives
Writer, rapper, poet in conversation with David Olusoga
St George’s Bristol: Friday, May 11 2018 7pm
There’s some top-notch culture to be consumed this weekend, kicking off with rapper and poet Akala in conversation about race and class at St George’s. On the same night, Nish Kumar will be joined by special guests at 1532 Performing Arts Centre for a side-splitting night of stand-up.
Photography exhibition 24H Our City: People of the Croft also returns, this time at SPACE Gallery, documenting the characters who were captured by photographer Claudio Ahlers over a 24-hour period in Stokes Croft. Meanwhile, across the river, the Southbank Bristol Arts Trail will turn dozens of buildings into arts venues across the BS3 postcode over the weekend.
Mayfest’s exciting theatre programme also continues, with Drag Queen Story Time in the foyer of Colston Hall at 2pm. If you’ve not seen one of Bristol’s best queens reading stories to a captivated audience of children, you’ve missed out.
