A national community project for the transgender community is coming to Bristol for the first time.
T&Coffee brings transgender and non-binary community together, offering a space for socialising and support and will hold their first Bristol gathering at Tesco Extra in Eastville at 11am on Saturday, March 14.
is needed now More than ever
The project started in Surrey in January 2019, and every gathering takes place in a Tesco Cafe as part of the supermarket’s ‘Out At Tesco‘ scheme.
T&Coffee is now spreading throughout the country with the support of Out At Tesco, providing a safe, accessible and trusted safe for transgender and gender diverse people to meet.

Bristol24/7 relies on your support to fund our independent journalism and social impact projects. Become a member and enjoy exclusive perks from just £5 per month.

Each gathering is open to all trans people, as well as their families, friends and trans allies. Volunteers will welcome and offer each person information and an introduction to your local T&Coffee group. The only cost is buying any food and drink.
“It’s important we meet in safe and accessible venues, which champions our LGBTQ+ community,” says T&Coffee founder Samantha Howard. “An alcohol-free venue is very important to us. We recognise the disproportionate level of substance misuse in LGBTQ+ communities. Therefore, a pub or club environment may not be a safe and supportive space.”

T&Coffee are collaborating with Trans in the City and The Diversity Trust to bring the event to Bristol for the first time.
“The support we received from Tesco and Trans in the City brings me to tears”, Samantha says. “We’ll add more capacity to existing services and local groups, rather than replace them. Therefore, we’ll collaborate where we can.
“We want trans and gender diverse people to feel ‘normal’ and celebrated by meeting other people in our community.”
