Celebrating Bristol24/7’s LGBTQ+ coverage
Bristol24/7 is the only publication in the city with a dedicated LGBTQ+ section to tell the important and often unheard stories of Bristol’s queer community.
Since the section’s beginning in 2016, Bristol24/7 reporters have covered everything from LGBTQ+ youth homelessness to a queer writing group, as well as big events like Bristol Pride and drag nights.
For Pride 2020, events aren’t able to take place in the same way as they usually do, but Bristol24/7 are still celebrating the city’s queer people.

A new LGBTQ+ cycling group celebrated a socially-distance Pride ride, two artists from Bristol’s queer community have been featured on billboards across the country to celebrate Pride Inside, and groups have been holding their own events on social media – and we’ve been reporting on every story.

As well as reporting on 2020’s Pride celebrations and the continued fights for LGBTQ+ rights, we have been looking back at the city’s queer history.
For LGBT History Month, we explored the history of queerness in Bristol, and for Pride month, we’re going back into our own archives.
In 2017 and 2018, Bristol24/7 and Tusko Films made Talking LGBT+ Bristol, a documentary funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund which shares the heritage of LGBTQ+ life in Bristol.
The film, which started production at the end of 2017, premiered in summer 2018 at Arnolfini and Watershed, and was screened twice in Millennium Square as a part of Bristol Pride.
Led by Bristol24/7, the film shared and added to existing resources collected by researchers and local historians and shared the real experiences – good and bad – of LGBTQ+ people, of all ages, and all ethnicities.
The first film of its kind in Bristol, Talking LGBT+ Bristol documented the real stories behind the city’s queer community and history.
The groundbreaking reporting documented in the film is something that Bristol24/7 continues into 2020 and the future.
We are proud to have not only the city’s only dedicated LGBTQ+ section, with its own Editor, but also to tell stories that are important to the city’s queer people.
