Bristol University LGBT+ Society

Both of the city’s universities are hosting events for LGBT+ History Month. The University of Bristol’s LGBT+ Society will be hosting a women-loving-women mingle at 99 Queens Road on February 8, a crafternoon on February 26 and an arts and performance showcase on February 28.
A highlight of the month will be the LGBT+ History Month Panel on being BAME and LGBTQ+, an event which will welcome Travis Alabanza, Sharifa Whitney James, Vaneet Mehta and Ferhan Khan to the stage.

LGBT+ History Month Event

Diversity Trust will host this special event with Aerospace Bristol, which will see guest speakers discussing their experiences and project work and performances from Drag Queen Story time.
It’s also the first day of the ground-breaking Revealing Stories exhibition by OutStories Bristol, which runs from February 8 to 23 and explores the hidden histories of Bristol’s lesbian, gay, bisexual and trans communities through images, artworks, oral history and memorabilia.
UWE Bristol LGBT+ Society

UWE Bristol’s LGBT+ Society have eight events taking place throughout the month. Beginning on Tuesday, February 11 with a social event at Boston Tea Party on Park Street, there will also be several bake sales, movie nights (showing The Death and Life of Marsha P Johnson, Paris is Burning and Bristol24/7’s short film Talking LGBT+), as well as a silent disco of February 21.

LGBTQ+ History Month

Programmed by Freedom Youth and involving local and international activists, there will be exciting events like a poetry slam as well as panel discussion to reflect on the past, consider the present and act on the future to create a world with freedom for all. Expect though-provoking panel discussion, history and heritage of queer people and workshops.
Celebrating Black Queerness

Kiki Bristol and RWA come together to present an evening of art appreciation, open discussion and a unique opportunity to learn from both activist and academic experts. Speakers billed include Lady Phyll, co-founder of Black Pride, Josh Rivers, creator and host of Busy Being Black, performer Travis Alabanza and Bristol’s own Dr Edson Burton.

Bristol Pride Queer Writing Workshop

Anna Freeman, an award-winning novelist and host of BBC Radio 4’s Sketches: Stories of Art and People will lead a special, four-hour-long writing workshop.
The workshop will focus on the skills and tools to bring lived experiences to life, whether in fiction, poetry or memoir and is produced by Bristol Pride LGBT+ poet laureate Tom Denbigh.
It will also explore queer themes and history and all experiences and writing styles: from poets to novelists to established writers.
