Bristol Femme Night launches crowdfunding campaign
Focused around feminism, womanhood and sexuality, Bristol Femme Night is an alternative LGBTQ+ night for anyone identifying as a woman and/or femme.
Founder Scarlet Dakota, who is 28 and is non-binary, wanted a chance to meet other women in a space that didn’t revolve around pop music and alcohol and, after talking with other women and queer folk, she decided to create the safe and supportive space for all femme people.

The first Bristol Femme Night was held at the Canteen in January 2019 and showcased queer poetry, music and cabaret by Bristol performers and artists. It was also a space where women could meet like-minded people, go for a date and chat over food and art.

Since then, a further seven events have been held and Bristol Femme Night has evolved into a safe and supportive space to mingle, express art, share, flirt, talk and come together to create a queer art scene.
To help Bristol Femme Night continue into 2020, Scarlet has launched a Crowdfunder, with the aim of raising £500. Money raised will fund artists and venue hire and allow the night to continue to grow.
Scarlet runs the night with her compare Alice Human, and the latest event featured local artists performing spoken word, music, burlesque, puppetry and comedy, with support from Apples and Snakes to initially set it up.
The night is especially important to those who feel like they don’t fit into the traditional stereotypes of the queer community, such as Scarlet, who says: “ I’ve never particularly identified or fitted into the normal gay scene and as a non-drinker, I wanted a to go where the main focus wasn’t drinking.
“My first long term girlfriend and I also wanted a more diverse and creative queer scene, something that was all inclusive of all queer folk and a bit more performance art- avant-guard inspired.

Scarlet hopes the Crowdfunder will help the queer night continue
“This night has been expanding and growing,” says Scarlet. “We are abundant with artists and the community but we need some help with funding so that we can keep it going.”
