Bristol Pride Festival to return for 2022

By Kit Million Ross  Thursday Feb 3, 2022

Bristol Pride have announced that the annual Pride Festival will be returning to the streets of Bristol between June 25th and July 10th 2022.

The two weeks of celebrations feature a packed events calendar, including the return of the popular Comedy Night and Circus Night events, and even a Pride Dog Show to find the Festival’s proudest pup.

Pride Day will take place on Saturday July 9th, returning to The Downs after two years of rapidly changing lockdown restrictions that put a stop to the event.

For many, the Pride Parade March is the highlight of Bristol Pride Festival-  a powerful mix of proud celebration and poignant remembrance of those who fought so hard for queer liberation.

Heartbreakingly, a delay in lifting lockdown restrictions forced the cancellation of the 2021 march, but it will make a triumphant return as part of Pride Day on July 9th 2022.

Eve Russell, Festival Director for Bristol Pride promises the 2022 Pride Parade March will be a real highlight of the 2022 celebrations, and will be “louder and prouder than ever as we mark the 50th anniversary of the first pride march in the UK.”

Eve says “The march is an integral part of what pride is and after two years of quiet streets, we’re excited to be filling the city with colour.”

“It is a chance to be visible and, importantly, it serves as a reminder that the LGBT+ community continues to fight for equality.”

Director of Programming and Partnerships Daryn Carter, who was recently awarded an MBE, is excited to finally bring Bristol’s queer community physically together after two long years.

“I know that after being disconnected for so long it’s going to be very special to have everyone back together and share the love and support of our incredible community through our events and as we all take to the streets for the Parade March.”

Attendees are encouraged to purchase a Supporter Wristband from £7 to help the event remain free and accessible to those who may not be able to afford an exclusively ticked event. The wristbands come in multiple price tiers and include various benefits including free First Bus travel on Pride Day, and discounts at onsite bars.
