Bristol24/7 Queer Catch-Up episode four: solidarity, inclusivity and Tom Marshman
Episode four of the Queer Catch-Up is here! In this fortnight’s episode, Kit and Lowie talk all about queer spaces and solidarity.
In light of a possible new queer space in Bristol, the pair discuss what they would want their dream LGBTQ+ space to look like.
It’s an important chance to bring up diversity and accessibility in the LGBTQ+ community and ensuring that queer spaces aren’t just performative in their work, but truly inclusive.
is needed now More than ever
The six individuals behind the new space are working to ensure that it will be fully welcoming for all queer people in Bristol and are working to make sure that the work they’re doing isn’t repeating projects already happening in the city.
Kit and Lowie also speak about Bristol’s show of solidarity with LGBTQ+ and femme people in Poland.
The country, which is officially the most homophobic in the EU, has declared more than 50 of its municipalities ‘LGBT+-free zones’.
PHATBristol, based in Bristol and founded by Ola Poroslo and Oli Rushen, is supporting queer and femme people in Poland through an album and a protest later in the year.

The album will raise money for three Polish charities. Aborcyjny Dream Team, offers Polish women safe abortions abroad, Stop Bzdurom is a charity of empowered and livid young queers who are relentlessly fighting for gay rights and Strajk Kobiet is a femme charity fighting to get back abortion rights for women.
Kit and Lowie will discuss the importance of queer solidarity when rights and freedoms aren’t granted and why we need to keep fighting to ensure that this doesn’t happen in the UK.
Kit will also chat to Bernie Hodges and Tom Marshman from Bristol LGBTQ+ podcast What, that Old Queen?!.
“A podcast born out of the perennial musings of Bristol-based homo sophisticates”, voice artist, actor, writer and film maker Bernie and performance artist and writer Tom talk all things queer and topical.
They talk about queerness and spirituality, building connections between older and younger LGBTQ+ people, podcasting as art and how queer media has changed over the years.
Listen to the podcast via SoundCloud, Spotify and YouTube.
