Christmas in At-Bristol Science Centre
At-Bristol, the harbourside science centre, is gearing up for a fun-filled Christmas holiday with a host activities to keep all of the family entertained throughout the festive season – visitors can expect some Christmas crafting, enchanting live science shows, trips to the stars and ice skating fun!
To get in to the festive spirit, the new Tinkering Space is hosting Santa’s Invention Workshop, where visitors can design their own snowflakes and get it burned out of card with a laser beam, have a go at finger knitting, and light up a miniature house with folded paper and fairy lights!

There are fairytale characters a-plenty in the family live science show ‘Fairytale SOS III’ with shows twice daily throughout the holidays. One call sends the Fairytale SOS helpline operator on a quest to turn base metals to gold and secure a seat on the next flight to Fairytale Land – with wicked queens, dragons, and a scary fairy, expect nail biting action and enchanting science demonstrations.
Visitors to the Kitchen in the Food! exhibition can learn about the science behind the upcoming feasts of the season, and try their hand at creating bread and tasty spice blends . They can then get their hands dirty in the Greenhouse, with some by discovering some brilliant bulbs to grow at home and planting some garlic to take home and grow!
The Planetarium will be running the latest Winter Stargazing show, as visitors explore the wonders of the winter night sky with the presenter-led shows in the UK’s first 3D digital Planetarium. During the school holidays the special ‘Space Explorers’ show will be running daily too, perfect for little adventurers under six, as well as a newly revamped version of ‘Exploring the Solar System’ – a family Planetarium show taking a closer look at the Earth, Sun and Moon. There is also daily storytelling for under eights too.
And, the Live Lab area is currently playing host to ‘Frost Lab’, where visitors can explore the science of all things cold by dressing up in different materials and investigating what keeps you warm, and marvelling at the beauty of snowflakes, and how they’re made.
The Millennium Square Ice Rink will be open throughout the holidays (except for Christmas Day and Boxing Day), with sessions open to the general public, as well as evening ‘Disco Boots’ sessions from 6pm onwards, and special under-eights ‘Little Boots’ sessions every morning at 10am. Ice Rink tickets cost £9.50 for adults, £8.50 for concessions and £7.50 for children, with reduced entry rates for group bookings and a discount for booking online.
All activities are included in general admission price to At-Bristol, with the exception of the Planetarium, which costs £2 per seat for a 2D show, or £3 per seat for a 3D show. Booking in advance is advised (especially in busy holiday periods), and 3D shows are only available for children aged 6 and over.
At-Bristol will be open every day from 10-6pm during the Christmas holidays, with the exception of 24, 25 & 26 December.
