Discover Clifton High’s nurturing Pre-School, The Hive

By Bristol24/7  Monday Jan 23, 2023

Welcome to The Hive
Located in a beautiful Victorian building on the main Clifton High School site, The Hive Pre-School nurtures children in a friendly, supportive setting. With teaching tailored throughout the year to their interests and development, The Hive is so much more than a preschool.

Dedicated pastoral support
Class sizes in the Hive are small to allow the teachers and teaching assistants to really know the children well and devote more time to each of them individually. The close relationships built between them allow teachers to nurture every child’s emotional, social and physical development.
Our teachers and teaching assistants ensure that each child is a valued member of The Hive so that they develop strong confidence whilst feeling happy, secure, and supported. We know that this is central to a child’s growth and wellbeing.
Parents’ involvement in the Hive is very much welcomed and there is an ongoing open dialogue about the children’s development to ensure the best outcomes for them.

First-class learning opportunities
In The Hive, the qualified teachers who have experience of teaching Reception age, give children the tools to smoothly transition into Infant School.
Children follow the Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum. This instils a strong emphasis on exploration, discovery and problem-solving, allowing them to develop individually in an engaging safe environment.
Teaching is tailored to a child’s preferred learning style and activities are developed to match their interests. By carefully observing how children play, staff plan fun activities to create unique learning opportunities.
Every day, new skills are learnt through a vibrant array of activities, including dance, coding, climbing, construction, music and beat, gymnastics, French, and storytelling yoga. On top of this, social opportunities help them build relationships to form friendships for life.

Exploration in a beautiful setting
Children in The Hive undertake a wide variety of activities during the day. Within the School grounds the children benefit from their own dedicated area which is well equipped with age-appropriate play apparatus, helping to refine gross and finer motor skills.
Clifton High’s holistic approach is embedded in The Hive’s setting which encourages a perfect balance of play and learning. The children have a room with modern technology, a well-stocked library, a kitchen and dining room with an adjoining exploration area, and a mindfulness classroom that provides a calmer space.
Outside, there is a beautiful wildlife pond, forest school area, and eco-garden where the children can enjoy supervised wildlife encounters. They are encouraged to explore the world around them, enabling their sense of self-awareness and curiosity.
As a through school, the children have access to the wealth of main school facilities, making them a part of the vibrant Clifton High community.
