If you’re feeling the pinch after Christmas, check out these free family activities happening throughout January:
Eastville Parkrun

Eastville Park
Want to get fit with your family? Start the year as you mean to go on with this 5km run, which happens every Saturday in Eastville Park. Its free to join in and you can be as fast or as slow as you like, so don’t worry about not being an expert runner just yet.
Big Story Day
January 19
Bristol Cathedral
Join Bristol Cathedral for a storytelling extravaganza. The day will be filled with craft workshops, games, music and activities, kicking off with the story of Noah’s Ark. The day is completely free, just make sure to bring along a packed lunch.

Family Volunteering Day

Brunel’s SS Great Britain
Jump aboard the SS Great Britain and become part of the crew. You will work together with other families to encourage visitors to dress up, team them how to play traditional games and even demonstrate how to shovel coal.
Hello! Lawrence Hill

We The Curious
Families who live in Lawrence Hill are invited to explore We The Curious for free on this special community day. Come and try a whole range of interactive activities including storytelling, hands-on science exhibits and whizzing through space in the Planetarium.

Explore the Farm
Hartcliffe City Farm
Take a break from the hustle and bustle of city life and escape to Hartcliffe City Farm, on the green fringe of south Bristol. Meet the animals, learn about where food comes from and explore the play area. All of Bristol’s city farms are free to enter but appreciate any donations you can spare.
Wildlife Photographer of the Year 2018
January 18

Get inspired by some of the most breathtakingly beautiful and spectacular images of the natural world at the Natural History Museums Wildlife Photographer of the Year exhibition. Under 16s go free at the exhibition (which runs to February 24) but on January 18 it’s free entry for everyone.
Build a den
Leigh Woods
Ramble through the trees and get happily lost in these beautiful and tranquil National Trust grounds, which suddenly open up to offer breath-taking views of Clifton Suspension Bridge. Bring a flask of hot chocolate to drink in your den as a reward for all that hard work.
